Toblerone Candy Bar Shortbread

I Love Chocolate.Who doesn't?The moment i saw this recipe in Divya'a blog, i knew i had to make this. The best part was that it just needed four ingredients and is way too simple to make.Far more important was the outcome.Just too good from such a simple recipe.But Before we move on to the recipe lets know a little about "ShortBread".


What is a ShortBread?
Shortbread is a type of biscuit (American English:Cookie) which is traditionally made from one part  white sugar, two parts butter, and three parts flour. Shortbread is so named because of its crumbly texture (from an old meaning of the word short). The cause of this texture is its high fat content, provided by the butter.The related word "shortening" refers to any fat that may be added to produce a "short" (crumbly) texture.


Is it the same as shortcake?
Shortbread is different from shortcake, which can be similar to shortbread, but which can be made using vegetable fat instead of butter and always uses a chemical leavening agent such as baking powder, which gives it a different texture.


Shortbread biscuits are often associated with normal egg-based biscuits, but they hold their shape under pressure, making them ideal for packed meals.Shortbread is baked at a low temperature to avoid browning. When cooked, it is nearly white, or a light golden brown. It may be sprinkled with more sugar while cooling. It may even be crumbly before cooled, but will become firmer after cooling.

Shortbread is generally associated with and originated in Scotland, but due to its popularity it is also made in the remainder of the United Kingdom, and now all over the world.




Ingredients
Butter, Unsalted - 1/2 cup at room temp( I used home homemade makkhan)
Sugar - 1/4 cup
All purpose flour - 1 cup
Salt - a pinch
Toblerone bars - 2,50 gms each at room temp

Method
Preheat oven to 160C.
Take butter in a bowl.Mix in sugar and beat until soft and creamy.
Now add the flour. You can sift the flour if u like but sifting isn't needed here.
Mix everything nicely. You may use your hands to do so because the dough will be dry.
Transfer the dough into a baking tray and pat it with your hands or back of a spoon until the dough is levelled and plain. Bake for 25 - 30 mins.
Meanwhile chop the toblerone bar and make sure its at room temp.
As soon as the baking is done, take the tray out of the oven and spread the chopped toblerone over the shortbread.
After 5 mins spread the chocolate over the shortbread evenly.
Mark or cut into small squares .This is because if we don't mark or cut out the squares now, it will become crumbly and little harder to cut it out later. Cool it completely before taking it out of the baking tray. This ensures that the chocolate is not too runny.
